Shield of El Cid is a decorative display shield, painted and full sized. Shield of El Cid is an ornate, full sized shield by Armaduras. The shield bears the coat of arms of El Cid, liberator of Spain. Crafted in Toledo, Spain, the shield is made in burnished steel with bronzed embossing and antique-finish paint decoration. The piece is equipped for wall hanging and is complete with a back-mounted bracket that allows one or two swords to be fixed behind the shield for an outstanding wall display.

The legend of El Cid became Spain’s national epos. Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar was a Castilian nobleman who, according to the legend, throughout his lifetime lived a life of adventure, fighting for the good against the evil. Rodrigo de Vivar, also known as El Campeador (the Champion), was a notable military leader and the national hero of Spain. His title of “the Cid” comes from a Spanish dialect of Arabic, sidi, meaning “sir” or “lord,” and was a title he acquired during his lifetime.
